GERHART GOING FOR RECORD 9TH WIN AT DAYTONA

Daytona Beach, FL, February 13, 2013 – When the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards opens their 2013 season with the 50th annual ARCA 200 on February 16th, veteran racer Bobby Gerhart will be shooting for another milestone at the World Center of Racing. Having already tasted victory 8 times at Daytona, Gerhart, along with the BGR crew, will be trying to put the #5 MAVTV American Real/Protect the Harvest /Lucas Oil Chevrolet in Victory Lane for an ARCA-record 9th time. “Obviously, we love racing here”, Gerhart said. “We’ve been racing here a long time but every year we treat it like it’s our first time. This track is so special to me. I remember coming here as a kid think that one day I’d race here. It is such a privilege to here. “  In fact, Gerhart will be making his 26th consecutive start at Daytona this year, a record for consecutive starts there.

While Gerhart is approaching his mid-50’s, he doesn’t anticipate retirement anytime soon, especially when it comes to Daytona. “Right now we’re focused on our 9th victory. I can’t tell you how special it would be to get it in ARCA’s 50th Anniversary race.”  Gerhart also has his eye on another record. He’d like to be the oldest superspeedway winner in history, among all sanctioning bodies. “I think Iggy Katona holds that record. I believe he was 57 when he at Daytona in 1974. I’ll be 55 in July. I still feel good so the plan, as of now, is to keep going.”

Gerhart knows the path to his 9th victory won’t be an easy one. “Every year the entry list seems to get stronger. There are a ton of strong teams and a bunch of talented, young drivers. That’s what keeps us humble. I’ve never considered myself the favorite here. We’re always the underdog. That’s what keeps us hungry and in the proper mindset. We never stop working on our car. You can’t if you want to give yourself a chance. “

Gerhart also knows chasing his 9th victory at Daytona wouldn’t be possible without the support of his marketing partners. “We are so happy to continue our partnership with Lucas Oil into 2013”, said Gerhart. “They’ve been a great organization to work with over the years. They’ve supported our racing efforts and have become a true friend to our team.” BGR is also pleased to have MAVTV American Real and Protect the Harvest on board for Daytona. They join Blue Knob Auto and long-time supporter AT Construction.

The ARCA Lucas Oil 200 presented by MAVTV American Real will be shown on SPEED, Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 4:30 PM ET.
