Bret Holmes and the No. 23 Holmes ll Excavation team finished eighth at Iowa Speedway after starting from the rear of the field on Friday night. The No. 23 team started practice atop of the leaderboard. After making an adjustment and heading back out onto the track for another practice run, Holmes made contact with the outside wall. With a heavily damaged No. 23 machine, the Mooresville, N.C., -based team was forced to unload the backup car. The team was unable to make a qualifying run and started from the rear of the field. Holmes battled his way into the 10th spot by lap 20. He remained a fixture within the top-10 for the remainder of the event. During the final caution of the night, crew chief Shane Huffman called Holmes to pit road for four tires, a splash of fuel and a small chassis adjustment. Holmes moved into the eighth spot on the lap 148 restart, earning his 12th top-10 finish of the season.

BRET HOLMES QUOTE:
“It seems like we’ve had a little string of bad luck here lately. We unloaded with a strong car. During our first practice run, we went to the top of the leaderboard and ended up third, overall. The second run, we went out for practice and had an oil line come loose going into turn one. It got oil all over our tires, and we ended up hitting the wall. With all the damage, we had to bring out the backup car. The backup car wasn’t nearly as strong as the primary car. The guys worked super hard on it in the heat to get it ready for the race. We did what we could with the time that we had. I think if we could have raced our primary car, we definitely would have been up there contending for the win. We aren’t giving up, this just makes us a stronger team.”
