Race Recap: Crosley 150

SPARTA, KY – Battling adversity was a common theme for Bret Holmes in the Crosley 150 at Kentucky Speedway on Friday night. A first lap spin followed by another multi-car incident later tested the young driver’s nerves and patience in his intermediate track debut.

With a new car and a new sponsor on board, Holmes was looking to make a big run into the top-5 and beyond, but as fate would have it, he spent most of the evening trying to play catch up with the drivers he had qualified around just a few short hours earlier.

Managing to stay on the lead lap all night — thanks to the decisive calls made by former ARCA Champion Grant Enfinger — allowed Holmes to steadily make his way back into the top-10 and finally into seventh place when the checkered flew at lap 100.

Some could draw negatives from the young Alabamians’ night, but Holmes sought after positives as he chalked this one up as a “Learning Experience.”

“No doubt I was disappointed with the way I raced tonight,” Holmes said. “But as I think about it, I realize that yes, this was my first race on an intermediate track, and I managed to finish seventh. It’s not the finish I had in mind, but I have to just roll with the punches here and learn from the mistakes I made. That’s just how racing is sometimes.”

Holmes has still not finished outside of the top-10 in any ARCA start during his limited schedule this season. This was his lowest finish since Talladega in April, which still states a solid fact that Holmes manages to scramble in the face of adversity and does what is needed to finish well.

“It was just one problem after another tonight, and I just had to buckle down and fight till the finish,” Holmes said. “We will learn from it and move on to Kansas now. Regardless of the night we had, I am still so proud of my team and the work they put in day in and day out.”

As Holmes and BHR turn the page to the season finale in Kansas on October, 14th, they will once again seek out a solid run and continue to place Holmes on the fast-track to success.
