John Wes Townley ARCA Toledo Preview

Concord, N.C. (May 15, 2016) – Friday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series JACOB Companies 200 was a struggle for John Wes Townley, whose lone highlight was leading three laps under caution on a day cut short following an incident on lap 128 of 200 with a fellow competitor.

“I was on fresh tires and had just went past Timothy Peters entering Turn 3,” Townley said. “He drove it deep into the corner and pinched me down on the inside and my truck came around. I nearly had it saved but it snapped back at the end and made slight contact with the nose on the outside wall in Turn 4.

“Unfortunately, there was just enough damage that we couldn’t make repairs to get back out.”

Townley and the Athenian Motorsports team were forced to load the No. 05 Zaxby’s Chevrolet and start prepping for Friday night’s event in Concord, N.C.

“I was surprised that we didn’t run better at Dover, but I’m confident about Charlotte,” Townley said. “The 1.5-mile tracks seem to be my bread and butter. We get extended practice on Thursday. I feel good about our chances to be a factor this week.”

Townley’s work week won’t end following Friday night’s Truck race in Charlotte. Once the checkered flag waves, he’ll board an airplane and fly to Toledo, Ohio to begin preparations for Sunday afternoon’s ARCA Menards 200 at Toledo Speedway.

“Toledo is a fast, half-mile oval that has a lot of history,” Townley said. “My spotter, Terry Cook, is from that area and knows that track really well. I’ll lean on him and my crew chief, Kevin Reed, a lot on getting around that place.”

The NC Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway is set to roll on Friday May 20th at 8:30 p.m. eastern. It will air live on Fox Sports 1. The Menards 200 for the ARCA Series at Toledo Speedway will start at 2 p.m. and air on American Sports Network.
