MOORESVILLE, North Carolina – Mason Mitchell Motorsports (MMM) announced today that 19-year-old Kyle Weatherman will make ten starts with the championship team during the 2017 ARCA Racing Series season. Weatherman’s first start will come in the season opener at the Daytona International Speedway (DIS) in the Lucas Oil 200 Driven by General Tire.
“Knowing we had two very solid races with MMM last year tells me that if I do my job correctly we should have ten chances of winning,” an excited Weatherman exclaimed. “Knowing that all of these guys have worked together is great; they know each other well and will work together to accomplish the same goal – and that’s to make fast race cars and win races.”
Weatherman is also eagerly looking forward to starting the season in Daytona, proclaiming that DIS is the ‘World Center of Racing.’ It’s where racing started and to be able to race here for the second time is very cool.”
Weatherman’s 2017 schedule in the No. 78 Chevrolet includes Daytona International Speedway (Feb 18), Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville (April 8), Salem Speedway (April 30), Talladega Superspeedway (May 5), Pocono Raceway (June 9), Michigan Int’l Speedway (June 16), Iowa Speedway (July 8), Chicagoland Speedway (September 14), Kentucky Speedway (September 22), and Kansas Speedway (October 20).
Weatherman made two starts for MMM last season, earning the second-place slot at Madison and then a third-place finish at the high-banked Winchester Speedway in Tennessee. Last year also marked Weatherman’s first start at Daytona, where he earned a third-place finish in the 80-lap event. A sponsor for Weatherman’s No. 78 Chevrolet will be announced next month.
“This is a great opportunity for MMM to add a talent like Kyle to our 2017 lineup,” owner Mason Mitchell stated. “We know the level of talent that Kyle brings every week. We were able to work with him for a few races last season. We look to build upon what he’s already done and win multiple races.”
Weatherman is a veteran when it comes to racing on the ARCA circuit. In 43 total starts, he’s amassed 32 top ten finishes, 22 top five finishes, had an incredible first place win at New Jersey Motorsports Park (2015), and nailed down four pole awards. With his impressive stats, Weatherman captured the SCOTT Rookie of The Year in 2015 and also racked up the inaugural Short Track Challenge championship.
Weatherman’s agent, Matt Casto of The Sports Agency, concludes, “This year will assuredly be one for the record books. With the strong team Kyle has behind him and the drive to succeed Kyle has inside him, you’ll want to be paying attention to this gifted driver.”
