LONG POND, Pa. (June 7, 2017) – From the shortest track of the season to one of the longest, Cunningham Motorsports drivers Shane Lee and Dalton Sargeant have all eyes set to Pocono Raceway for the General Tire #AnywhereIsPossible 200. The two drivers took laps around the 2.5-mile superspeedway for the first time this year during the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards open test.
Last year, Lee had his best finish of the season at Pocono coming in fourth, and it didn’t take the 23-year-old long to get reacquainted with the track.
“Pocono is such a unique track,” said Lee. “To me it almost drives like a short track with obvious differences. The way you brake coming into the turns isn’t like any other superspeedway and that makes it pretty fun and different. The guys in the shop had such a quick turnaround from Elko to Pocono and they made sure I had a fast car to test in today for the race. Hopefully things will go our way and we can get the No. 22 Big Tine Ford Fusion the victory for the first time this season.”
Just like his teammate, Sargeant also saw some of his best races at the famed track last season, taking third and fourth-place finishes. With one win so far this season, Sargeant and the No. 77 team are hoping to return to victory lane and gain valuable championship points come Friday.
“We fell behind a little more than we would have liked after Elko in the point standings, but I’m confident we’ll be able to gain some back with a few good races,” said Sargeant. “I really love coming to Pocono…there’s no other track like it and it’s such a fun place to race. With fast equipment and a good team behind me, I know we have what it takes to win. It would be pretty special to bring the No. 77 Big Tine Ford Fusion back into victory lane again at Pocono.”
After an up-and-down race at Elko, Lee and Sargeant hope to get some momentum going back in their favor this weekend. Both took multiple laps during the rain-delayed test, making progress each time they hit the track.
“It was extremely beneficial to take some laps around the track and get used to everything again,” said Lee. “I think we picked up on things quick, made the adjustments we need to make and we’ll be strong for the race Friday. After two weeks of bad luck, I think we’re in a good spot to get back on the right track and race for this championship.”
Sargeant ran at the top for the entire test session, ending the day within the top-10 on the board.
“We were able to learn a lot about how the car runs on this track and what we need to work on for the race Friday,” said Sargeant. “I think we made some good adjustments today and I was able to get used to the track again, which was good. We have a strong car for Friday and I think we’ll definitely be able to go out and be contenders to win this race.”
Race activities for the General Tire #AnywhereIsPossible 200 will take place on Friday, June 9 with practice from 9:30-10:55 a.m.. General Tire Pole Qualifying is set for 2:00 p.m. with the feature event slated for a 5:45 p.m. start time. The race will air live on FS1. All times are local (ET).
