Concord, North Carolina (September 8, 2017) – Tom Hessert will make his fifth and final start of his abbreviated ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season Saturday during the Eddie Gilstap Motors Fall Classic 200 at Salem Speedway.

Tom Hessert at DuQuoin 2017Hessert, a native of Cherry Hill, NJ and 11-year veteran of the ARCA Series, returns to the historic high-banks of Salem Speedway looking to capture his fourth Salem victory over the last five seasons. Back behind the wheel of Venturini Motorsports’ No.25 Musselman’s BIG CUP Apple Sauce Toyota, Hessert’s upcoming start will mark his eighteenth career start on the Southern Indiana half-mile track.

“There are very few tracks in the country like Salem Speedway,” says Hessert. “It’s by far one of my favorites on tour. Even after the repave in turns three and four a couple years back the track remains the same – it’s tough on tires – if you want to be there at the end you need to stay focused and take care of your equipment.”

Over his career Hessert has earned seven top-5 and 11 top-10 finishes in seventeen Salem starts.

Saturday’s upcoming race will mark Hessert’s first short track event since finishing runner-up to teammate Christopher Bell in last season’s Salem Fall Classic.

“We took a different approach this season only running a handful of races – but it’s no coincidence we’re back. Salem is special place for me – we’ve had a lot of success here over the years and I’m hoping for some more.”

Of Hessert’s six ARCA Series career wins, three have come compliments of Salem Speedway – winning the 2012 Salem Fall Race, the 2013 Salem Spring Race and the 2014 Salem Fall Race. Hessert’s other series victories came at Iowa in 2010, Talladega in 2014 and at Springfield’s dirt mile last season.

With 43 all-time ARCA Series victories, Venturini Motorsports has earned six team victories at Salem Speedway over three decades of series competition (Billy Venturini ’06, Steve Arpin ’10, Brennan Poole ’11, Kyle Benjamin ’13 and Christopher Bell twice in ’16).

The Eddie Gilstrap Motors Fall Classic 200 presented by Meadow View/Salem Crossing has been designated “The Official Throwback Weekend of ARCA”. Two full days of activities are scheduled to take place, including a golf scramble, parade of haulers, Friday night Fan Fest with live music and more.

Spectator gates open on Saturday (Sept. 9) at 11:15 a.m., with practice getting underway at 12-noon. Qualifying is set for 3 p.m. with the Great American Stock rolling off at 5 p.m. ARCA Throwback Weekend pre-race ceremonies, including the First Harrison Bank on-track autograph session, is set for 5:45 p.m. with the ARCA 200 slated for a 7:15 p.m. start time.

ABOUT MUSSELMAN’S APPLE SAUCE

A family tradition, deeply rooted in quality.

Musselman’s BIG CUP satisfies appetites of teens and adults with active lifestyles, while Musselman’s Squeezables is the healthy snack Mom can provide to her children who are on-the-go.

Musselman’s was founded in Biglerville, PA, in 1907 by Christian and Emma Musselman. The original plants in Biglerville and Gardners, PA, provided much needed canned goods for the servicemen during WWI including corn, tomatoes, and of course apples. They focused on the processing of the abundant local fruit in the area, producing apple sauce, apple juice, and their now-famous Musselman’s Apple Butter.

In 1984 the C. H. Musselman Company was purchased by a cooperative of local fruit growers (Knouse Foods, Inc.). The Musselman’s name, which reflects quality, tradition and value was preserved and remains a thriving brand today under the ownership of the growers who still tend to their fruit orchards. Knouse Foods, Inc., established as a growers’ co-op in 1949, has a long history of providing outstanding fruit products. They believe making healthy, delicious fruit products is more than just a job; it’s a way of life. And that’s why the growers who have spent their entire lives nurturing their orchards and harvesting their fruit also own the company. That pride and care are the key ingredients that make Knouse fruit products the very best.
