Mooresville, N.C. – (June 11, 2016) – This has been a season of reunions for Cunningham Motorsports. First, Parker Kligerman returned for the ARCA 150 presented by Unique Pretzels at New Jersey Motorsports Park…grabbing the victory that he had long felt he had been denied.
Now, Will Kimmel, who drove three races for the Cunningham organization in 2013, is returning to run three races. The Montgomery Ward Father’s Day 200 at Madison International Speedway in Madison, Wisconsin, on Sunday, June 19 is set as the first scheduled race, followed by Winchester Speedway, the following week and Berlin Raceway in August. Kimmel, who is running select races for his family-owned Kimmel Racing team this season, will take over the reins of the Paul Andrews-led No. 22 team at the .5-mile track.
Kimmel, from Sellersburg, Indiana has made four ARCA Series starts in 2016 with a best finish of fourth at Talladega Superspeedway in April. His career best finishes are two runner up finishes at Pocono Raceway’s “Tricky Triangle” in 2014 and Salem Speedway in 2011. In addition, Kimmel made two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts in 2015 and six NASCAR Xfinity starts.
The 28 year old will become a teammate to fellow Indiana native, Chase Briscoe, who he has mentored and coached throughout the early 2016 season. In fact, when circumstances caused Kimmel Racing to withdraw from the most recent Michigan race, Kimmel hopped atop the No. 77 pit box during the race to provide a driver’s perspective for Briscoe. Chase is currently leading the season-long championship points battle and has a best finish of second yesterday at Michigan International Speedway.
Prior to the announcement Kimmel stated, “I’m really looking forward to running with the Cunningham organization again. I appreciate the opportunity Briggs and Kerry have given me. We have such a great relationship between our two teams. I can’t wait to go to the track and focus on only driving the car.”
Practice for Kimmel’s ‘homecoming’ in the Montgomery Ward Father’s Day 200 is scheduled for 12:30-1:15 CT and 1:45-2:30 on Saturday, June 18, followed by Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell at 4:00. On Sunday, fans will have the opportunity to meet both Will and Chase during an autograph session from 12:00-1:00. The 200 lap race is scheduled to start at 2:00.
